Leaside Centennial Productions call for participants!

We are proud Leaside residents who want to document Leaside’s past and present and share our collective stories with the community we love.

You may have already heard about our Leaside centennial project to create an educational and entertaining video chronicling our community’s storied history and vibrant present. The final production will be extensively available online and in a compact DVD timed to celebrate our centennial year.

We know you have a special connection and interest in the Leaside story and we would like to invite you to share your experiences with us. We will be filming interviews every Saturday from 2:00pm - 5:00pm until the end of October.

Here are questions to be asked

What are your oldest memories of Leaside?
What do you recall about the development of the "Town/Neighbourhood?"
What are your family memories in Leaside?
What are your fondest memories?
Who is your "hero" of the community?

As a proud Leaside resident, it is my privilege to share a glimpse of a very special Video Production in progress.

We are looking for individuals with a connection to Leaside's Community History in support of our research, Leaside Centennial Productions, "100 Years Inside Leaside" Documentary.

We want this documentary to serve as a bridge to the past, to uphold the legacy and rich sense of history that is Leaside. Please note, we are booking final interviews for October and early November 2013.

On behalf of the producers of this rare video, I am appealing to you for any "gateway to the past" or referral to resources that would assist.

TREB Housing Market Charts - September 2013

Strong Sales and Price Growth in September

October 3, 2013, TORONTO -- Greater Toronto Area REALTORS® reported 7,411 residential sales through the TorontoMLS system in September 2013, representing a 30 per cent increase compared to 5,687 transactions reported in September 2012. Year-to-date, total residential sales reported through TorontoMLS amounted to 68,907 during the first nine months of 2013 – down by one per cent compared to the same period in 2012.

“It’s great news that households have found that the costs of home ownership, including mortgage payments, remain affordable. This is why the third quarter was characterized by renewed growth in home sales in the GTA. We expect to see sales up for the remainder of 2013, as the pent-up demand that resulted from stricter mortgage lending guidelines continues to be satisfied,” said Toronto Real Estate Board President Dianne Usher.

The average selling price for September transactions was $533,797 – up by 6.5 per cent year-over-year. Through the first three quarters of 2013, the average selling price was $520,118 – up by over four per cent compared to the first nine months of 2012.

The MLS® Home Price Index composite benchmark for September was up by four per cent year-over-year. The annual rate of growth for the composite benchmark has been accelerating since the spring of 2013.

“The price growth story in September continued to be about strong demand for low-rise home types, coupled with a short supply of listings. Even with slower price growth and month-to-month volatility in the condo apartment market, overall annual price growth has been well above the rate of inflation this year. This scenario will continue to play out through the remainder of 2013,” said Jason Mercer, TREB’s Senior Manager of Market Analysis.

Open House & First Skate at Leaside's New Rink!

"On behalf of the Board of Management of Leaside Memorial Community Gardens, I invite you to join me on Saturday, October 5th for an Open House & First Skate on our new rink!
As I have mentioned previously, some items like painting, signage and landscaping will not be completed by October 5th.  Our priority has always been to get the ice surface ready and available to our user groups at the earliest possible date.  The new rink will open for programming on Sunday, October 6th.  We will thank our generous community donors more formally and appropriately when the Donor Recognition Wall is completed later this fall.
Thank you!  And I look forward to seeing you on Saturday, October 5th at 10 a.m.  BBQ to follow.  Bring your skates!
I encourage you to forward the attached invitation to your friends -- anyone who might like to join us as we celebrate this milestone event.

Arena Board Chair
